Every band starts with a story, and for Captain Matt, it’s one shaped by service, discipline, and creativity. A Navy veteran, Matt went on to work in the field of engineering, where he even started his own firm — building a career on problem-solving, innovation, and leadership. Yet music was always close by, calling him back to songwriting and storytelling.
What began as casual covers and originals on TikTok quickly grew into something much bigger. Fans connected not only with his music but with the Gulf Coast spirit he embodied — resilience, freedom, and fun. That online community, now known as the #BOATCREW, encouraged him to step beyond being a solo act.
With the release of his debut album, Captain Matt is ready to take the next step: forming a full band, The Boatcrew, to bring his songs and vision to life on stage, in the studio, and across the Gulf Coast.

The Boatcrew is not just a backing band — it is a partnership with Captain Matt, much like Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band. Together, they will shape the sound and future of Gulf Coast Country.
This partnership is built on collaboration, creativity, and shared vision. Each member will bring their own style and influence, contributing to a sound that blends Texas Country grit, Americana warmth, Classic Rock energy, and coastal soul. The Boatcrew is designed to be a family of musicians, storytellers, and performers who turn every audience into participants, not just spectators.
When not working directly with Captain Matt, The Boatcrew will also serve as studio musicians for other Gulf Coast Country artists within Boat House Music Group, the newly formed Galveston-based label founded by Captain Matt. In addition, when those artists join Captain Matt on tours, The Boatcrew will support their sets as well, creating a collaborative ecosystem of talent under the BHMG banner.

- Filming the YouTube documentary series, “Replacing The Robots”, which will follow the making of the band

🎤 Captain Matt – Navy veteran, songwriter, and frontman. He serves as the primary lead vocalist (baritone-to-tenor range) and acoustic guitarist. Known for his commanding stage presence, he weaves engaging stories into performances and draws audiences into participation. Captain Matt also serves as the creative anchor and songwriter for the band.
🎸 Joel – Rhythm Guitarist/Ukulele/Backup Vocal. His New Orleans roots bring porch-swing rhythms and storytelling to the music. His true role will be as rhythm guitarist and ukulele player, with the ability to contribute tenor harmony and backup vocals, and occasionally take lead on originals.
🎸 Keith – Base player that provides the grove.
🎸 Shane – Lead guitarist who blends classic rock edge with twangy Texas country. He was the original member of The Boatcrew and is also Captain Matt’s songwriting partner. Known for solos that range from tasteful fills to jaw-dropping showcases, he provides both grit and melody to the band’s sound.

A fiddler who can soften the band’s sound with melodic lines but also step forward with dynamic solos. Texas Country influence is preferred, along with versatility in Americana and coastal-inspired music.
🎹 Keyboardist (Female Preferred, Alto Harmony)
A keyboardist who can bring piano, organ, and synth textures to the band. Must also provide alto harmony vocals, blending seamlessly with the band’s overall vocal sound.
🌊 Pedal Steel Player
A pedal steel guitarist who reinforces the band’s Texas roots while also providing atmospheric textures for coastal and Americana sounds. Should be versatile across ballads, uptempo country, and laid-back grooves.
🪘 Percussionist
A percussionist who adds a tropical feel with congas, cajón, shakers, and other hand percussion. Their role is to complement the drummer while creating moments that elevate audience energy and inspire dancing.
🎤 Harmony Vocalist (Female Preferred, Soprano Harmony)
A vocalist to provide soprano harmony, adding lift and brightness to the band’s overall vocal sound. Stage presence and audience connection are highly valued.
