Nashville Experience
Learning What Didn't Fit & Reclaiming The Sound
As momentum grew, Captain Matt began working with Nashville producers and label partners on several singles. While those collaborations brought valuable experience, he ultimately felt the recordings missed something essential. The sound that came naturally in his home studio—the intimacy, the coastal feel, the honesty—was difficult to capture within a traditional Nashville production and label framework. The music felt refined, but it no longer felt fully true to the life it represented.
That realization led to a defining creative decision. Captain Matt stepped away from the traditional producer-led and label-driven model and returned to his roots. He personally remastered his original singles, taking full control of the sound, the release, and the message. Those tracks were compiled into The Beginning – First Cuts Before The Band, along with bonus tracks featuring extended and live versions that captured the songs as they were meant to be experienced—shared, lived, and shaped by the moment.
In 2025, the album climbed to #15 on the iTunes Country Charts, achieved without major-label backing or traditional industry promotion. The milestone affirmed what Captain Matt already believed: the most authentic version of the music was the one created on its own terms—driven by community, collaboration, and truth rather than industry expectations.
The Music Evolves

At the same time, the music itself was evolving beyond a solo voice. As Captain Matt continued performing along the Texas Gulf Coast, he began connecting with musicians from across the Gulf states who were living in the Houston and Galveston area. Each of them understood the vision—not just musically, but personally. They lived the lifestyle, respected the values, and brought their own regional influence to the sound.
Through rehearsals, dockside shows, and countless conversations, those musicians began shaping the music together. Each member rubbed off on the others—including Captain Matt himself—creating a blend that couldn’t be manufactured or planned. The result wasn’t a perfect formula, but something better: an honest, lived-in sound that reflects the diversity, grit, and soul of the Gulf Coast. That collaboration ultimately became Captain Matt & The Boatcrew.
Where The Music Stands Today
As the band came together, the music quickly outgrew the small spaces where it began. But the vision was never just about finding a rehearsal or recording room—it was about building toward a place where music could be created and eventually experienced alongside the community that supports it. That vision took root aboard Creola, docked in a run-down marina far from polished studios, yet rich with freedom, privacy, and possibility.
While that marina has not yet become a full performance destination, it represents the foundation of what’s being built. It’s where the idea expanded beyond a single band into a growing collective of independent artists joining along the way—writers, musicians, and collaborators aligned with a shared purpose. This holistic approach is guided by a mission to spark a new music movement rooted in faith, family, freedom, and fun, supported by a growing team of booking, marketing, production, promotion, and artist development leaders. What exists today is the beginning: a clear direction, a shared vision, and a commitment to build something lasting—together.
