The Boatcrew Band

The Boatcrew Band was built on a different kind of foundation—one inspired by the spirit of the Coral Reefer Band. From the beginning, the vision was never about locking into a rigid, permanent lineup. The anchor has always been the songs, the lifestyle, and the lead vocal, while the musicians around it remain flexible depending on the show, region, and season of life.

That philosophy came from real experience. Gulf Coast musicians often balance multiple projects, touring schedules, and family commitments. Instead of fighting that reality, The Boatcrew Band was designed to embrace it—creating a structure where great musicians can contribute without the pressure of a traditional “all-or-nothing” band model.

Over time, that approach naturally created a strong core of recurring players while still leaving room for special guests, rotating musicians, and unexpected collaborations. That flexibility keeps the music fresh while allowing the project itself to continue growing long term.

Captain Matt is building The Boatcrew into a nationwide touring and recording collective built around “The Perfect Beach Cocktail” — a blend of Trop Rock, Texas Country, and New Orleans-style blues inspired by life along the Gulf Coast.

In 2025, Captain Matt worked with Houston-area musicians to help shape the early foundation of the project through rehearsals, arrangement development, live performances, and the creation of a unique live experience that “Captainized” the songs and musical influences behind the sound. Together, The Boatcrew performed local shows around Houston while building toward a much larger vision.

As the project rapidly expanded beyond Houston into nationwide touring plans, recording projects, livestream productions, destination performances, and long-distance travel across the United States, the demands of the journey naturally changed as well. Some musicians were able to continue into that next chapter, while others were not in a position to commit to the growing national vision behind the project.

Rather than limiting the future of the music to one permanently fixed lineup, Captain Matt expanded The Boatcrew into a larger collaborative touring concept centered around the songs, the atmosphere, and the community supporting the voyage.

Moving forward, musicians from across the country may become part of The Boatcrew for live performances, recording sessions, festival appearances, destination events, and touring opportunities throughout the United States.

Inspired by touring models such as Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band along with Zac Brown and the Zac Brown Band, the project is designed to continue growing while allowing different musicians and personalities to become part of different chapters of the journey.

The most consistent things along this voyage have always been Captain Matt, the songs, and the #BOATCREW Family.

And Captain Matt is far too hard headed to let the voyage end.
