FREEPORT, TEXAS — Over the past year, Captain Matt Music, LLC has worked to assemble and develop a permanent touring band built around the idea that one person may be able to reach the edge of space, but it takes a crew to land and walk on the moon. Like many ambitious voyages, sometimes the journey evolves differently than the original vision first appeared.
Together, “The Boatcrew” musicians spent countless hours rehearsing original material, building live arrangements, developing show presentations, and even “Captainizing” select cover songs to reflect the musical influences and Gulf Coast energy that helped shape the project’s identity. The Boatcrew also performed shows around the Houston area while helping build the foundation for what was intended to become a full-time national touring act.
“The long-term vision was to build a touring project capable of traveling across the United States while bringing the ‘Perfect Beach Cocktail’ blend of Trop Rock, Texas Country, and coastal storytelling to audiences everywhere,” said Captain Matt.
However, as the project prepared to officially launch into its next chapter of touring and recording, it became clear that not every crew member was meant to stay aboard for the entire voyage ahead with Captain Matt. While the departure of musicians is never easy, it does not stop the ship from continuing its journey.
“This past year has been one of the most rewarding, exhausting, exciting, and challenging chapters of my life,” said Captain Matt. “I’m incredibly proud of everything we built together, and I’ll always appreciate the musicians who helped shape this project and bring these songs to life.”
As a result, Captain Matt Music, LLC has officially decided to evolve into a more flexible collaborative touring and recording collective rather than continuing to pursue a permanently fixed lineup.
The updated structure draws inspiration from artist-led touring models such as Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band along with Zac Brown and the Zac Brown Band, where the core musical identity remains consistent while different musicians, collaborators, and special guests become part of different chapters of the live experience.
Moving forward, Captain Matt will continue seeking talented musicians willing to invest the time to learn the music and become part of the voyage — whether for a single performance, a regional tour run, a recording session, or multiple shows across the country.
The updated structure creates opportunities to collaborate with talented artists from across the country while continuing to grow the signature “Perfect Beach Cocktail” sound and live experience that has become the foundation of the project.
Upcoming performances, studio projects, livestreams, and touring plans will continue moving forward as scheduled, including appearances at marinas, yacht clubs, music halls, festivals, waterfront venues, and live music destinations across the United States.
“Some people are meant to be part of one chapter of the voyage, and that’s okay,” added Captain Matt. “The most consistent thing along this journey has always been Captain Matt, the songs, and the #BOATCREW Family. That will always continue. I’m too hard headed to let my community down.”
